Hanuman Tok History
In the 1950s, a political official named Appaji Pant experienced a divine vision at this location. Following this spiritual encounter, the statue of Lord Hanuman was erected, and the temple became known locally as Hanuman Tok.
By 1968, the entire area was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Indian Army. It is currently maintained and protected by units of the 17th Mountain Division of the Army.
Adjacent to the Lord Hanuman Temple, there is a temple dedicated to Shirdi Saibaba. To the right of the entrance to the stairway, you’ll find the cremation ground of the former Namgyal Royal family of Sikkim, where numerous stupas and chortens can be observed.
