The annual event, which draws thousands of spectators to the serene backwaters of Alappuzha (Alleppey), promises to be bigger and more exhilarating than ever.

New Dates for 2024

Originally planned for August, the organizers have announced that the 2024 edition of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race will take place on September 7th, 2024. Change aims to accommodate a broader audience and ensure optimal weather conditions for both participants and viewers.

This year’s event will feature a series of pre-race festivities starting from September 5th, building up to the grand race day. Key events include:

September 5th, 2024: Cultural programs showcasing Kerala’s rich traditions, including Kathakali performances, classical music, and local folk dances, will be held on the banks of the Punnamada Lake.

September 6th, 2024: Grand procession of snake boats (chundan vallams) will be held, followed by practice sessions for the participating teams. This day will also see a special race for junior rowers, promoting the sport among the younger generation.

September 7th, 2024: Main event, the Nehru Trophy Boat Race, will commence in the afternoon. Race will feature over 20 teams from across Kerala, each competing for the prestigious Nehru Trophy. Event will culminate with the presentation of the trophy to the winning team by a distinguished guest.

Enhanced Spectator Experience

To enhance the spectator experience, the organizers have introduced several new initiatives for 2024:

Reserved Seating: Premium seating areas with shade and refreshments will be available for spectators who wish to enjoy an unobstructed view of the race.
